Ditch the Generic Hairbrush
Why regular hairbrushes are ruining your hair
Many people don't know this, but the current traditional plastic/metal hairbrushes create damage to your hair cuticle, which increases frizz, causes split ends - the exact opposite that any of us want! The only brush that will not cause damage, and is actually extremely beneficial for your hair is a natural or boar bristle brush. This type of hairbrush promotes shine by helping to restore your natural protective layer as it's porous bristles soak up the oils from your scalp and pull them through to the ends. Our bodies naturally create the specific type of sebaceous oil each of us needs for our hair own hair type (aren't bodies amazing that way?). Any cosmetologist worth their salt will tell you that your body creates the exact recipe of sebaceous oil you need for glossy shiny hair (though certain medicines and conditions prevent this).
So why are we using brushes that cause damaged hair? Well, to put it simply - time. It takes much longer to detangle your hair with a boar bristle brush, and girl, can be an arm workout if you have thick and/or long hair. On our journey as humans to make life more enjoyable by inventing things that give us time back in our lives, we accidentally went backwards in some departments. We sacrificed glossy hair for time. For some people that's what they prefer or works best for them and that's ok! But for others, their hair is their identity and trying to achieve luscious hair while we have the wrong tools is a losing battle. A boar bristle brush is very smoothing and controls hair better than the regular brushes, the only downside is that it takes longer.
Boar bristle brushes have so many benefits to our hair, the only downside being time. If you keep up with this method for even just one month you will notice a difference. Keep up with this method for 6-9 months and you will have glossy hair that shines like silk because it will have a solid and strong natural protective layer - that you so lovingly took the time and patience to get!
- Detangle wet hair with a wide tooth comb to prevent damage - ensuring you aren't ripping or tearing your hair by going too fast or pulling too hard. Everyone's hair elasticity is different and will only stretch but so many times before it snaps, just like a rubber band or hair tie.
- With a boar bristle round brush, blowdry on medium to low heat. Keep brushing through each section until dry, always making sure the air is blowing down your hairshaft and not up so that the hair cuticle is pushed back down - you will notice immediately the shine, control of those baby hairs, and frizz you use to despise. Remember that this takes longer so trust the process!
- Once dry, lightly brush over with a boar bristle paddle brush to get the shape you desire and to lay and stray hairs in place.
- It is also great to brush your hair before bed! This stimulates the blood flow which in-turn promotes hair growth, and we all know our bodies do the most work and healing while we are asleep. And it is also a good idea to to remove any knots before sleeping on it which would possibly push those knots deeper.
- Since boar bristle brushes are porous, they will need to be cleaned every now and then - just like other brushes and combs. Start by using a fine tooth comb to remove any loose hair built up in the brush, beginning at one end and pushing the comb down to the other side of the brush. Soak the brush in a bowl of hot steamy water and soap to heat up the oils on the brush and allow them to rise to the surface. Scrub the bristles with your fingers, rinse and then allow it to dry.

Please fill out the sign up form on our connect page and we will schedule a consultation with you to determine if we are a good fit. To further the process, we will then send you a link to your Client Portal, where you can sign our contract and pay your retainer ($400). After those steps are complete, your date with us is secured.

When do I schedule my preview?
Your bridal preview, also known as a trial, is recommended to be scheduled no more than 3 months before your wedding date. In this timeframe your accessories will be on hand & skin and hair will be very close to how it will be on wedding day, giving us a more accurate understanding of your exact needs. Previews can be scheduled within your client portal after booking.
Will you come to my location?
Beauty services are exclusively on site, offering convenience and more time in your schedule. This also allows us to get to know you in an environment you are familiar or comfortable with.
what are your sanitation practices?
We take every precaution with an extensive sanitation and sterilization process consistent with the current highest industry standard. We are Barbicide certified and update certification yearly.
Are you licensed and continue Education?
Yes! Jasmine has been a licensed Cosmetologist since 2012 and takes many classes every year in order to ensure she is always delivering high-end services to her clients. The beauty industry is ever evolving and her education follows suit.
